Action:
Benzocaine is a local anesthetic commonly used as a topical pain reliever. These are active ingredients in many prescription ointments.
Lidocaine is a common local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. Lidocaine is used topically to reduce itching, burning, and pain from skin inflammations. It is approximately 90% metabolized in the liver by CYP1A2 (and to a minor extent by CYP3A4) to the pharmacologically active metabolites monoethylglycinexylidide and glycinexylidide.
Adverse drug reactions with lidocaine are rare when it is used as a local anesthetic.
Tetracaine, also known as amethocaine, is a strong local anesthetic. It is mainly used topically, in ophthalmology and as an antipruritic agent.
Adverse drug reactions with tetracaine are rare.
